There are two parts to sponsoring a family member to come to Canada.
- The application to sponsor someone to come
- The application to come to Canada
So who, exactly, is a family member?
- Spouse
- Common-law or conjugal partner
- Dependent Children
If you would like to sponsor a family member, you need:
- To be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident
- To be 18 years old or older
- To be able to support your family member financially
- To not be receiving any government assistance
- Not to have been convicted of a crime
- Not to have declared bankruptcy
You may also be able to sponsor your parents or grandparents to come as part of the family class. Another option is for them to apply for a Super Visa. This will allow them to come for two years at a time.
